NowIStyle items, studded headband and romance books

I recently decided to stop by the romance genre at the book store, just to take a sneak peek of what people are masturbating on. Every 1 in 3 books, was about a dangerous creep. Man, what is it about "dark, irresistible, dangerous" men, that make woman behave like drooling maniacs?

I'll show you what I mean, but first comes the fashiony part:
I suppose you've already heard of Now I Style and their fuckton of gorgeous clothes. If you haven't, prepare for a fuckton of photos!

Coat- nowistyle, Dress- noistyle, bag- random Chinese shop, spike headband- Asos.

Ok, back to my daily rant.

These titles are just the tip of the masturbating iceberg:

1. Taste

.Damien Stark could have his way with any woman. He was sexy, confident, and commanding: Anything he wanted, he got. And what he wanted was me.
Our attraction was unmistakable, almost beyond control, but as much as I ached to be his, I feared the pressures of his demands
...

3. Marked
Elisabeth Naughton

...From the moment he walked into the club, Casey knew this guy was different. Men like that just didn’t exist in real life—silky shoulder-length hair, chest impossibly broad, and a predatory manner that just screamed dark and dangerous....

4. Venom (Secrets of the eternal rose)
Fiona Paul

.... Soon, she finds herself falling for Falco, a mysterious artist with a mischievous grin... and a spectacular skill for trouble. ...

5. Death and the girl next door
 Darynda Jones

...High school is not quite as painful as she thinks it will be, and things are as normal as they can be.  Until the day the school's designated loner, Cameron Lusk, begins to stalk her, turning up where she least expects it,  standing outside her house in the dark, night after night....

Ever since "Twilight", romance books have been all about questionable sexual issues and plucking tampons from the vagina, (yeah, those of you who read "Fifty shades, know what I'm talking about).
I understand the need for fantasy, but how about giving a nudge to everyday boring life. You do know, average generic people fall in love too right? ZzzzZz, bored?
Maybe try something like this: "He was generally a nice, chest haired guy, who worked at the IT department. He started his day with a cup of coffee and ended it with a Heineken. He got the occasional panic attacks, which occurred on every company meeting, but as soon as he took an aspirin it all disappeared"...now? I bet you're bored now.

Have the lives of most housewives been reduced to shallow existence, centered around an annoying kid, the only light at the end of the tunnel being a book about mysterious, hairless weirdo? So it seems.
You may think that love between ordinary people is boring, well it is, if it's written by a dumb ass.
The most interesting romances I read where from Erich Remarque, and the guy doesn't even write romance. He just writes complicated characters, struggling through life, who happen to fall in love.
And don't even give me the "but the females in those books are ordinary" card, because they are not. The female characters may think they're ordinary, but ordinary people don't attract tons of dark, handsome guys, believe me.
I think life is hard and interesting enough, to have characters who are normal. They may be insecure, sad, hysteric, vulnerable, happy, exhausted, fighting, giving up...
I'm so sick off vampires, werewolves, obnoxious dark assholes and dumb princesses, who keep stumbling down their feet, because being clumsy=ordinary, go figure!

So, what genre books do you guys prefer?

  3. Hahaha! Oh my gosh, you are the best at hooking your readers... that first sentence... I nearly died. :) Keit, you are quite flawless, you know.
The nice chest haired guy with occasional panic attacks sounds like my kind of man, actually. But yeah, I guess everyone likes to read into these near-impossible stories to ease their fantasies... there are some strange fantasies out there that people have, but whatever floats their boat, I guess. ;)

Love that sweater dress and all the patterns in this outfit!! Your belt is rather awesome and pirate-y, too, which I adore.

  7. This post was super interesting to read. The romance genre in general makes me roll my eyes. Pretty classy stuff some people are reading, huh? But that's not the point. The point is, as you so well put, is the fantasy of the 'desirable' guy and the 'normal' girl people write about. Might as well be fifteen year old fangirls.

  8. I used to masturbate by Victor Hugo as teenager ;P actually I've never been rooted in reality, I think... ;)
don't forget, that selection of literature depends on readers sensitivity. some people are just simple, other - sensitive or neurotic... so what? thanks god, the spectrum is huge and business go on! ;D
hair, lipstick and pullover are my favourite combo here! <3

  9. HA. dark handsome boys with career jobs who treats women well don't exist in the real world. If they do they know they're hot and wanted that they are players. wow I am so dark today lol. P.S love that dress you're wearing, totally match your hair!

  10. it's a miracle when I have enough time to read a book.. I did read The Twilight books of course and liked those because they were so easy to read and follow. but all those tiny format love stories in book stores are not my thing.. I think my grandmother likes those :D
btw, Remarque is one of those authors that I remember from high school because he sure is good!
oh and I like that Chinese bag a lot!

  11. adore your post!
I really love Erich Maria Remarque books, though his heroes and circumctances aren't ordinary, though I suppose he could write something exciting even about the ordinary life (and love) of that IT-guy:) My favorites are also Stendal and Jack London and Ivan Bunin.

  15. I just love whenever you wear that shade of red/pink/magenta? It really just suits you so well and makes you look very luminous! Plus, that jacket? Whatever, stop being so awesome, ok? :)
I'm very picky when it comes to books, if it doesn't catch my attention within the first couple of pages, it usually doesn't get read. I'm weird and like reading cookbooks now...perhaps I'm getting old? haha

  27. Fashiony stuff...That dress is freakin' awesome on you!
I enjoy biographies...real life romance novels I guess. I mean, you must be interesting (or done something interesting,) if someone decided to write a book about you, right?
And for the record, there was far too much murmuring and mercurial crap in 50 Shades...The Story Of O (classic) was much better...

And I have never heard of those books and I suppose it is good. :) I am not a really big fan of romance movie. Only if there is another important story behind the romance..like Atonoment. And I also love horrors. :)

  31. Dayum! You look stunning. :) This totally cracked me up, though I haven't actually read any romance novels. I did see Twilight, though, which was one giant eye roll. I'm kinda fascinated with fantasies, though. They never seem to make much sense.

"He was generally a nice, chest haired guy, who worked at the IT department. He started his day with a cup of coffee and ended it with a Heineken. He got the occasional panic attacks, which occurred on every company meeting" - haha, sounds like me, minus the chest hair. ;)

  33. Romance books were bad enough with the over;y sensitive dudes but with the creepy serial killerish vibe going now now, it's just crazy! I'm surprised more of those books don't end with frantic calls to the police and bodies under the floorboards. You should write one, you had me at hairy men drinking beer. ;) (hah, I like my men hairy!) The pink studded hairband is pretty awesome btw.
