Change of Heart, Change of Style

So recently I've been thinking about my style and I must say I am not very fond of it. I feel like I am missing out something and I feel like all those colorful clothing I buy every time is starting to loose its charm. I don't know, maybe it's because I am growing old? I gotta say I ain't how I used to be.
In fact, I have turned into one of those people who use the same old sticky note app, cause they feel downloading a different one is adventurous! This is literally how old people feel!

Either it be age or common sense, I don't like that I keep going for the glittery, the shiny, the out of the box items. And let me tell you, when you combine three out of the box thingies all you get are scrambled eggs with sequins. Sometimes I feel like I'm not doing my best and this in addition makes me kinda depressed, and when I'm kinda depressed I go second hand shopping and when we get to this phase, you know shit's going down. I opt for the brightest, most colorful unpractical piece of clothing and when I get back home I end up been depressed all over again. Is it me or do you guys also feel there is a pattern?

I am in a midlife fashion crisis, which I confess is totally a "first world"problem, but I really don't care. The point is, I decided to try and change my style to the way I have always wanted it to be. I had my grunge phase, my pink phase, my Harajuku phase, now I have a dramatic crisis phase in which I want to incorporate colors but in a more casual and structured way, the old people's way....So, one of the first purchases I got which follow this rule are these bell bottom pants. I got them from the second hand shop Remix, but they originally are Mango.

These are well fitted, neutral color, which is practical and well balanced, while on the otherspectrum we have a bright chunky tomato-red sweater with a stripped blouse underneath. I like how this outfit turned out, but it's still not I want to achieve, I have a long way to go.

So any of you guys felt like this? Or have you always been 100% sure in your style?

  1. I don't think I'm ever 100% in my style. I definitely feel better in it now than I did two years ago, and two years ago I felt better than I had two years before, but style is a constant work in progress - and sometimes, just when you think you've gotten to where you want to be, where you want to be suddenly changes. But in a way, that's part of the fun.

  2. If I'm there babe, I'll shake you till your senses comes back to you!! LOL!! You're not in whatever crisis you are in but you're just trying to find yourself and what suits you best. If you think being home makes you depress then go out more! Go walk in the park, eat at the cafe, walk the dog, do things that makes you happy. It's important to be contented in life. You have to be happy within yourself, then you will spread joy.
There's also nothing wrong with choosing bright color to suit your mood-of-the-day.

  3. You look really awesome in this outfit! I am old- you know it!- and I've been through this. I have an unposted blog essay about it actually, written a couple of days ago. I thought I was boring. I fell into a group of bloggers who are very flamboyant in style, impressively confident and colourful and I wanted to be that. I was at a transition in life as well as coming out of an emotionally abusive relationship. I learned a lot and one thing I learned is that I am not flamboyant. I look awful in bright colours and I can get to 'too much' really quickly. You have a dramatic, strong look, with defined bone structure and exotic looking eyes ( there's a controversial word ) and you do pull off bold colours but I suspect you could also pull of something very simplified and dramatic, like all black, very linear sorts of outfits. I see sharpness, boldness and strong lines in you. It seems like you have some options to play with and maybe you need a slightly different look for different days. Clothes won't make you happy for long. Any new purchase wears thin rather quickly, but feeling comfortable in your own skin and in your clothing will help. You can be sure I will watch, support and cheer you on whatever your journey! xo

  4. Hi there! I came here from Lookbook because I was really drawn to your colorful style. You dress the way I wish I could every day! I can't because 1) I'm not daring enough and 2) I need to look at least semi-professional for the office. So I've settled on a compromise, exactly like what you mentioned--incorporating color, but in a structured, "old people" way. Everyone's style changes over time, and I look forward to seeing what you do with yours! Fanning you on Lookbook! Cheers!

  5. I think I get what you mean. I've always been drawn to colours, the bold ones, and patterns are my big weakness, but lately I've started to tone down my style a bit. I feel a need to wear normal things like jeans. I suppose that what matters is that we are happy with our clothing choices. Colourful can become routine just like everything else. We can get stuck in a rot wearing 'crazy outfits' all the time. Everything can get boring after a while. The great thing about clothes is that when we get tired of a certain style we can always change it.

Those pants are gold! They look great on you.

  6. I love this so much. You look spectacular in those pants. Holy cow! Loving the stripes under the bright red sweater. You look dynamite! <3

  7. OMG, what stunning creature is this? I love your outfit and I don't care if you wanna change it up or not. As long as you like it and you're happy, there is no other valid reason to just go ahead with whatever. Remember, it's your wardrobe, you can wear a rainbow of an outfit with an explosion of sequins or glitter, nobody can say NO! Well, they can, but you will carry on. I would love to wear something bright but since getting old, I started to mellow a bit in my choices. I'm never 100% with what I wear because as long as it's covering the right bits and the reflection in the mirror looks okay, I just let it be! So far, so good. Anyway.......I SO agree with Anna, you look dynamite! You look BOMB! :O
